Oedipus Rex: The Prologue

1. "Poor children! You may be sure I know all that you longed for in your coming here." P. 962 line 61 "I was not sleeping, you are not waking me. No I have been i tears for a long while and in my restless thought walked many ways." P. 962 line 68

2. We know that he has some how killed his father and married his mother even if he dosen't realize that he has. On top of that he is causing the blight of the land.

3. The imagery makes the audience feel for a king that is truely trying to save his people and a country that backs him up in most ways.

4. Motifs: The Great King, Arrogance of Power

5. The chorus is singing about the fact that they know what is going to happen. They know what Oedipus did and they are creating irony.
